It is hard to believe that it in just a few short weeks the kids will be heading back to school. This will be a big deal in our house because both of my boys will be going to preschool. This will be the first year of preschool for my youngest son. I'm sure momma will be shedding some tears that first day.
This coming weekend is a tax free weekend for back to school shopping. This is a newer phenomenon here in our state and is something I'm really glad to be able to utilize when shopping for our supplies.
Over the last year, I was happy to support our local school by collecting Box Tops for Education. This is such an easy thing to do and the few seconds it took to snip them off the box was very rewarding for me. So when the folks at MyBlogSpark contacted me to let me know that Sam's Club has some great products that have bonus Box Tops for Education, I was excited to share the information with you. When you shop at Sam's Club, you will find General Mills brands such as: Honey Nut Cheerios, Nature Valley Oats 'N Honey Crunchy Granola Bars, Totino’s Pizza Rolls are offering bonus box tops! These items will have specially marked packages that will have 6 bonus box tops. That is a lot of box tops!
And even if you don't have kids in school, if you have grandkids or neighborhood children I'm sure they would appreciate them. Last year my sister who doesn't have school aged children was kind enough to save her box tops for us, as well as both grandmas. Many classes have contests for the class who collects the most box tops. Start saving them now to help out with those contests.
I'm excited that today you have the opportunity to win a $25 gift card that you can use at Sam's Club. (MyBlogSpark & General Mills sent me one too. Yay!) You have 5 opportunities to enter. You must post separate responses to this thread for each entry to count. You must also include your email address so I have a way to contact you. This giveaway will end at midnight EST on Wednesday, August 10th. The winner will have 24 hours from when I contact them to get in touch with me, otherwise I will draw another name.

Lights, Camera, Free Movie Tickets!
I think it is official that the busy holiday season is now underway. And one thing I love about this time of the year is that great movies seem to get released around the holiday season. I haven't had a chance to get out to see the latest installment of the Harry Potter films, but dh and I hope to go soon.
I'm excited to share with you that now when you buy two specially marked boxes of General Mills Big G cereals, you can get a free ticket to the movies. Who doesn't love that? And with the way ticket prices have increased, it isn't cheap to go on a date night, let alone try to take a family of four to the movies. I love it that you can get rewarded for buying something you like and use every day. I've included a picture so you can see the cereals that are included in this promotion. When you buy your boxes, you'll visit this url General Mills Movie Cash and enter the special code inside the box. You'll then be able to print off your Movie Cash Certificate.
The folks at General Mills and My BlogSpark were kind enough to send me a box of Reese's Puffs and Honey Nut Cheerios and some movie tickets. I had to take a picture of my youngest son, Logan a.k.a. Mr. Picky Eater. This kid won't touch ice cream or cake, but he tried and loved the Reese's Puffs. I thought I would fall out when he tried this cereal. And then wanted more!
So this week is a great week because of course you've got Thanksgiving tomorrow and then the fun of Black Friday shopping and who doesn't love a long weekend? I say let's start celebrating even earlier with a giveaway! You can enter to win a Family Flick Night Gift Pack which will include cereal and movie tickets.
You have 4 opportunities to enter. You must post separate responses to this thread for each entry to count. You must also include your email address so I have a way to contact you. This giveaway will end on Friday, December 3rd at 12:00 a.m. EST The winner will have 48 hours from when I contact them to get in touch with me, otherwise I will draw another name.
1.) Which of the five General Mills Cereals shown above are your favorite, or would you like to try?
2.) Follow me @chiccraftychick on Twitter.

It pays to be a Loser
Feeding America. It is a great charity and one that I've seen more of recently. One of the chef's on Top Chef Master's has been competing for this charity, as well as Chef Curtis Stone who was a recent contestant on the Celebrity Apprentice. With the turn the economy has taken, the overwhelming need for assistance from local food banks has been even greater recently. I have personally witnessed this because my church has a small food bank in it and there are people constantly coming. The needs are so great. I've seen statistics that children are especially affected by hunger here in America. And with summer coming and kids being out of school and not able to get at least one good meal a day from going to school, food banks are going to be even more pressed.
Recently, I was contacted by the MyBlogSpark program and asked if I'd like to participate in a program being sponsored by the Kroger Co. Family of Stores, General Mills, and The Biggest Loser. They are supporting a wonderful effort called the Pound for Pound Challenge. If you go to this website http://www.pfpchallenge.com/Kroger, you can find information on this effort that can help you with living a healthy lifestyle and achieving your weight loss goals.
The cool thing about the Pound for Pound Challenge is for every pound that you pledge to loose through June 30th, Pound for Pound will donate 14 cents to Feeding America. I've already gone on the website and made a pledge and I'm hopeful that you will too. Think about how doing this small thing that only takes a few minutes from the comfort of your home could affect such positive change in your community. What a powerful program this is going to be with the support of folks like you.
General Mills is one of the official suppliers of food to the Biggest Loser Ranch. Some of the foods that they supply that have helped the contestants in their weight loss journey include: Yoplait Greek Yogurt, Total, and Multigrain Cheerios. I personally have liked using the Yoplait Greek Yogurt in recipes. Most recently I made a recipe that called for one cup of buttermilk and I didn't have any, so I was able to use one cup of the Yoplait Greek Yogurt as a substitute. The recipe turned out great. Did you know you can substitute yogurt for buttermilk if you don't have buttermilk? And I can't say enough good things about Cheerios. They are a favorite with my family. I have been trying to make sure we give our boys an early start with good eating habits.
The folks at MyBlogSpark were kind enough to send me $30 in Kroger gift cards so my family could get some of these wonderful General Mills products. I was excited because I normally buy these products. And I'm happy that they've given me the chance to share this opportunity with you too. Below are ways you can enter the giveaway for the $30 Kroger gift card.
Methods of Entry:

I won't ask you to share how much weight you've pledged to lose, but if you'd like to share I'd love to help encourage you. And I promise I won't be a Jillian to you. :) http://www.pfpchallenge.com/Kroger

A month of love - and we love Cheerios!
Update...
Wow, I can't believe it is February 1st. Since Valentine's Day is in February, I always think of February as the month of love. I've already put up Valentine's decorations which has helped brighten things with all the winter weather we've had.
My little guy, Sawyer, has been sick all weekend so it has been a rough weekend. We've dealt with scary high fevers. We are hopeful he is on the upswing. We didn't even get to play in the snow. :(
One of the things we love...
I was excited recently when the good folks at MyBlogSpark contacted me and asked me if I'd like to participate in a program they had with General Mills regarding kids cereals. I said, "Heck yeah, I'd love to!" So General Mills & MyBlogSpark sent me some coupons to get some free cereal. This was right up my alley because I always buy General Mills cereal. So, who doesn't love to get some for free?
The General Mills cereal I buy the most are Cheerios. Sawyer loves the plain Cheerios and I like the Frosted and the Cinnamon Apple Cheerios. This weekend I was so glad we had Cheerios because with this illness Sawyer had, he had been sick on his stomach. When he started to feel better, I was able to give him Cheerios because they weren't harsh on his tummy. The poor child was gobbling Cheerios as fast as he could.
Another reason I love Cheerios is they have been a great first snack as my kids have started eating solid foods. I remember when Sawyer was a baby I was nervous about giving him solid foods as his teeth were coming in and I remember asking my pediatrician about giving Cheerios. His comment to me was, "Well, I've never known a child yet to get choked on a Cheerio. They have the hole in the middle." So, I had to admit that made me feel a little bit better. LOL
A while ago I was watching The Today Show and saw a segment that their nutritionist, Joy Bauer, presented on healthy foods. One of the cereals that she recommended was Cheerios. They are a great source of whole grains which are supposed to be a part of your daily diet. Hearing that made me feel good that I'm giving my two little guys and myself a good cereal to start our day, and of course it also makes a great snack.
This was some other interesting information that I was sent about General Mill's efforts regarding kids cereals: "General Mills announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain."

I also wanted to show y'all this really cute book that my mom got for Sawyer. On the different pages you place the Cheerios. It is a great way to help kids with their fine motor skills because they place the Cheerios on different parts of the book. The Cheerios are also great to work with them on counting. Isn't it cute that you can put the Cheerios in the spots where the wheels go for the little cars? This book would make a great gift along with one of those small containers of Cheerios. This would be a good thing to pack in your bag to occupy your little ones when you go out to eat at a restaurant.
Here is a link where you can go and print off coupons for General Mills cereals. The folks at MyBlogSpark & General Mills sent me this link to share with you. Using these coupons paired with store sales can be a great way to pick up some cereal inexpensively. http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=qljheit24889505&bt=wi&o=60627&ci=1&c=GM&p=NY8LmWB2
